Endo Cleaner is a cordless ultrasonic handpiece for activating the irrigating solution during endodontic treatment. The ultrasonic vibration of the tip generates cavitation and acoustic streaming of the irrigant, making root canal cleaning more effective.

Root canal shaping produces debris and a smear layer that settle on the canal walls, blocking the dentinal tubules and limiting cleaning; moreover, according to a study by Peters et al. (2001), about 35% of root canal walls remain uninstrumented because of anatomical complexity. Ultrasonic irrigant activation with Endo Cleaner helps disrupt biofilm, promotes the opening of dentinal tubules, simplifies and shortens irrigation time, and improves the final obturation.

Endo Cleaner operates at an ultrasonic frequency of 45 kHz (± 5 kHz), with a tip vibration amplitude of less than 100 μm: high-frequency ultrasound helps the irrigant penetrate even complex anatomical structures that are hard to instrument. The handpiece has two preset power levels, high and low, shown by an LED; to switch between them, even during treatment, simply press and hold the main switch for more than 1 second.

Endo Cleaner is available with three tips: X-Blue, flexible and pre-curvable (ref. PR00ENDOCPB, B18); X-Gold, powerful (ref. PR00ENDOCPG, G18); X-Silver, soft and flexible (ref. PR00ENDOCPS, S21). Available sizes are #20 2% and #25 2%, in 18 and 21 mm lengths. The tips are flexible, smooth and non-cutting, with pre-calibrated power, and are autoclavable and reusable: the manual estimates about 20 cases per tip, based on 2 root canals per case. They should be replaced in good time, as metal fatigue or heavy pressure on the handpiece can cause tip separation inside the canal.

After shaping the root canal, fill it with irrigating solution and insert the Endo Cleaner tip 2–3 mm short of the apex, activating the irrigant for 30 seconds; repeat the activation for 3–4 cycles, then dry the canal and complete the obturation. The manual advises keeping the tip 2 mm short of the working length while moving it up and down, activating the solution for 30–60 seconds, and never working without irrigant in the canal. Endo Cleaner is recommended for final irrigation; use it with care in severely curved canals, and do not use it in extremely deformed canals or for non-endodontic procedures.
